La Mesa partners with Eden Village
As the housing crisis continues to get worse and worse each month La Mesa Ministries can no longer sit back and watch. The time is long overdue, and we are ready to make a difference no matter how small the impact. Our Board of Directors have approved a licensing agreement with The Gathering Tree out of Springfield Missouri to build an Eden Village in the east valley of Phoenix, Arizona. Eden Village is a tiny home community where the chronically disabled live in a permanent supportive housing environment where relationships and community is the main ingredient. This community will have 21 new homes totally furnish and decorated all having one bedroom, one bath and a kitchen living room. Eden village amenities will include a club house where the residents can both work and interact with other residents, guests and volunteers, a community garden, gathering areas, a supply room, gated and secured perimeter fencing, security cameras and a columbarium to remember those who have passed. The supportive services will include but not limited to case managers and life skill trainers. Community involvement will be an integral part of the operations allowing both the residents and the surrounding community to be successful. Our estimate at this time is that rent will be $350 to $400 per month including utilities.
About Eden Village
Eden Village is a proven successful community for our disabled neighbors. They have two locations in Springfield, Mo with a third one under construction and a fourth under contract. Wilmington, NC. is fully completed and occupied. Kansas City, MO., Richmond, VA., Harrisburg, PA., and now Phoenix, Arizona are locations of Eden Villages throughout the country. These communities are not just about suppling tiny houses they are about relationships and community involvement. La Mesa has been creating relationships in the Phoenix east valley with the homeless and working poor for 9 years. Not only will Eden Village house our neighbors by getting them safe and economical housing but the community and health care system will benefit as well.
