Thursday Meal & Service
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” – Matthew 25:35-40
Though the community that we serve in Tempe is a little different, they still seek connection and relationship. The space may be different, but the love of Jesus flows just as strong.
The meal, which starts at 6:00, is provided by various cook teams. It is made with love and the community feels it. We are always looking for more cook teams!
Everyone is welcome to stay for worship, but it is not a requirement. We take the worship seriously, but it is made for this community. We sing together, confess, receive absolution, hear God’s word, perform baptisms and share the Lord’s Supper – everything that a worship service should have. We even offer a Bible study!
The community truly sees La Mesa as “their church”. For many, it is the only service where they feel welcome. Come see and feel the love of Jesus as we worship together.
When:
6:00 p.m. (meal) and 6:30 p.m. (worship), every Thursday.
What:
Be prepared to sit down for a home-cooked meal with people whose personal journeys may or may not be different from your own, families and individuals who are struggling to make ends meet, the working poor and the short- or long-term homeless. We have this in common: We are all God’s children and are loved very dearly by our Heavenly Father. You will have the opportunity to listen to a message and hear music, occasionally in Spanish. We will take communion together and pray together. The atmosphere will be very casual – come as you are!
